Shawnee Cemetery- A Cemetery Steeped in History

October 23, 2012

Shawnee Cemetery, A Cemetery Steeped in History, will be presented by Tom Jesso Sr., president of the Shawnee Cemetery Preservation Association at the October meeting of the Northeast Pennsylvania Genealogical Society.  Program highlights the final resting place of more than 15,000 burials, including more than 400 veterans from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War.  Its focus will be on the resting place of victims of mining disasters, factory explosions, epidemics, and the need to preserve and maintain the graves of these brave people of yesteryear.  Program benefits families of the deceased and those interested in gathering genealogy data in cemeteries, Luzerne County history buffs, and cemetery restoration and preservation.  Open to the public and questions are welcome.  Meeting scheduled in room 106, William G. McGowan Building, West Union and North River Streets, King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 7:00 p. m. Free. Details call 610-298-8417.
